Prior to becoming head of school in 2000, Dr. Fonseca served for 12 years as founding head of school of St. Philip’s Academy in Newark, NJ, a K-8 independent school whose mission is to prepare inner city students for competitive secondary schools. Dr. Fonseca is a commissioner of the Middle States Commission on Colleges and Secondary Schools. She also serves on the boards of the NY State Association of Independent Schools and Greens Farms Academy, and is a founding member of an organization that supports international orphans whose parents were afflicted with AIDS. She lives on campus with her husband, Petero Sabune, an Episcopal minister who is the Protestant chaplain at Sing-Sing Prison. They have four children, Nzaba is Masters School ’08 and Bing graduated in 2005. Very early each morning you can see Dr. Fonseca running on the Croton Aqueduct, followed by Petero, riding his bike, with their three dogs in tow.

Mrs. O’Connor joined The Masters School in 2007. Prior to becoming the executive assistant to the Head of School, Mrs. O’Connor worked for 17 years as an executive assistant at Booz, Allen & Hamilton; McKinsey & Company; and MTV Networks. She currently serves as secretary of the Throggs Neck Benevolent Association and is on the Board of the Annual Throggs Neck St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Mrs. O’Connor and her husband, Danny, have twin boys, Andrew and Christopher.
