The Masters School and New York City

Just a quick thirty-five minute train ride from our beautiful 96-acre campus, the vitality of New York City is a natural extension of our educational program and a cultural and social opportunity that enriches the lives of our students and faculty.

An Extended Classroom
From Lincoln Center to Yankee Stadium to the United Nations to the streets of Soho or Brooklyn, the city that never sleeps captures our imagination. Here students find extraordinary opportunities and resources for an unparalleled secondary school experience. Frequent class expeditions deepen learning in the arts, sciences, and humanities, and first-hand learning experiences with distinguished professionals from New York enrich our campus classroom experience.

Weekend Excursions
We encourage but do not compel students to take advantage of New York City during their free time. Most importantly, The Masters School has specific guidelines for curious and adventurous students who choose to travel to discover its unparallel resources. During the first weekend in the fall, all boarders along with faculty chaperones enjoy a structured and fun “NYC scavenger hunt,” which ensures that they learn how to navigate the city safely and confidently.

On the weekends, students can elect to take trips to world-renowned museums or attend dance programs, Broadway and Off-Broadway theater, and sporting events. They can explore the city’s colorful neighborhoods, indulge in some wonderful shopping, or visit with friends and family.

CITYterm
CITYterm is an intensive semester of study that transforms New York City into a laboratory and classroom for thirty selected juniors and seniors from The Masters School and other schools across the country. For more information about the CITYterm program, click here.
