Every upper school student is assigned
a faculty advisor whom they see almost every day: students
and advisors sit together at Morning Meeting three days
each week and have breakfast as an advisor group each
Tuesday. This casual yet frequent interaction gives
the advisor many opportunities to really get to know
the student and to give timely guidance as necessary.
Advisors are in regular contact with
a student’s classroom teachers and are always
available for one-on-one meetings with their advisee.
This familiarity with all aspects of a student’s
life—academic, co-curricular, social, and emotional—makes
it possible for them to communicate in meaningful and
helpful ways with parents.
Advisor groups—comprised of
five to eight students—are arranged by grade, so students
have the opportunity to get to know classmates who may
not be in classes or co-curriculars with them. Teachers
stay with the same advisees throughout the students’
years at The Masters School, so the advisor-advisee
bond is able to develop over time.
Boarding students have advisors
who live on campus—and thus have a special appreciation
for our residential community—and are available
to the student day and night, seven days a week.
