At The Masters School, learning extends
far beyond the classroom. In fact, it can take place
all over the world. Qualified upper school students
may engage in semester-long and year-long learning experiences
in New York City, California, and Colorado as well as
in China, France, Italy, and Spain. Select juniors or
seniors are eligible to participate in the following
programs:
Our own CITYterm, located on the school’s campus
in Dobbs Ferry, uses New York City as both a lab and
a classroom. Each semester thirty students come from
independent and public schools across the country to
take part in this experiential learning program that
raises significant questions about the nature of urban
life and stimulates an understanding of themselves as
learners.
The Oxbow program in Napa, California features a program
that places the visual arts at the center of its interdisciplinary,
project-based curriculum. By engaging students in the
creative process, Oxbow fosters a deep appreciation
for creativity in all areas of life beyond the classroom.
High Mountain Institute’s Rocky Mountain Semester
combines academic and wilderness experiences. Living
and working on a forty-acre campus, students embark
upon a series of learning expeditions as they explore
the Colorado Plateau.
Students wishing to live overseas are able to immerse
themselves in a foreign culture by attending one of
SYA’s unique schools in China, France, Italy,
or Spain. Founded by Phillips Academy, this program
enables students to grow in responsibility, self-reliance,
and in tolerance as they face the challenges of living
in another country.
