On
Friday, May 12, the Middle School hosted its first annual
Grandparents/Special Friends Day.
Head of School Dr. Maureen Fonseca
welcomed the nearly fifty grandparents assembled in
the Great Hall to The Masters School. Head
of Middle School Everett (Doc) Wilson offered the guests
some middle school curriculum highlights, after which
the grandparents were entertained and educated by the
middle schoolers themselves: fifth graders read poems,
sixth graders described their Hudson River projects,
a seventh grader played the piano, an eighth grader sang, and Environmental
Club “Bird Nerds” detailed their Earth Day
activities. Grandparents spent the remainder of the
afternoon visiting their
grandchildren’s classrooms and touring the Middle
School. Afterwards, everyone proceeded to the Library
at Estherwood for afternoon tea.
Assistant Head of Middle School and
Director of Middle School Admission Susan Hendricks
also gave a brief talk. As the "resident grandmother" of the Middle School, she commented, “It was a lovely afternoon. There were
so many smiling, happy grandparents in the
crowd. We were absolutely delighted with the turnout for this
first effort!”
