Celebrating the Season

Upper and middle school students raised their voices in melodic song and inspiring verse, played harmonious instrumentals, and lit candles for an evening glow in celebration of the holiday season.

In early afternoon in the Claudia Boettcher Theatre on December 20, under the direction of acting musical director Peter Fischer, the Middle School Winter Concert featured the Orchestra; Fifth, Sixth, Seventh, and Eighth Grade Choirs; an All Boys Ensemble; and MastersSingers. For the finale, middle school alums who are now upper school students joined in the traditional singing of “Now I Walk in Beauty.”

Later in the day, under the musical direction of Dr. Nancy Theeman, music teachers Katie Meadows and Giles Pugatch, and Dobbs 16 music director Gillian Crane, the upper school Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra, Jazz Band, Dobbs 16, and Glee Club entertained a full house of students, faculty, and parents in the theatre. The occasion was the annual Candlelight Concert, at the conclusion of which students and audience sang "Shalom
Chaverim" (peace be with you until we meet again) as they assembled outside in the circle, lit candles, and bid each other "Happy holidays and happy vacation!"
