Congratulations to the Class of 2008

On Saturday, June 7, the ninety-five members of the Class of 2008 took the heat in stride as they received their diplomas at commencement exercises before an enthusiastic audience of family, friends, faculty, and distinguished guests.

In his commencement address, Melvin Bukiet, novelist and professor at Sarah Lawrence College, offered the graduates some practical words of advice: "The ability to think...to be flexible and rigorous, or even to simply know when to be rigorous and when to be flexible, will sustain you no matter what shape vessel you become. Have lots of fun in college. Relish the life of the mind, care about the planet and its people...and by all means do things that your parents would be appalled by. If you don't, how will you know what to be appalled by when your own children go to college?"

“Talented kids trying to apply their talents practically," said Senior Class Co-President Kiril Sandor Orenstein Bauch in his remarks."That’s what Masters has always been to me, and how I hope it always will be. Henry Rollins, poet and singer of the band Black Flag said, 'Scar tissue is stronger than regular tissue. Realize the strength, move on.' That’s what high school has always been, and how regardless of what anybody would like, will always be...Thank you for everything, thank you for the scars. Congratulations, Class of 2008.”
