On December 6, expert Katie Koestner from Campus Outreach Services offered a series of interactive workshops on The Masters School campus throughout the day for middle school students, upper school students, and faculty. The topic, “A Cyber World of Trouble,” addressed the use and misuse of Facebook, MySpace, and other sites, as well as Internet games and technology.
In the evening, a crash course for parents included a tour of live websites frequented by adolescents, and facilitators also discussed insights on youth online behavior. Parents of all “skill levels” benefited from this program, which effectively bridged the gap between parents and their children caused by the explosive growth of the Internet, video games, and other popular technologies. The session covered everything from deciphering secret IM chat codes to BitTorrent Programs, Xanga, and online gaming issues. It was a great opportunity for parents to get the latest tips and strategies from the experts for protecting their children.
