Students Parry to Success

Three Masters School members of the upper school fencing team have qualified for the Junior Olympics, which will take place February 15-18, 2008, in Charlotte, NC. Bryce ’09 and Andrew ’10 have qualified in foil, and Ben ’12 has qualified in sabre. In addition, Fencing Coach Francisco Martin will be attending the Junior Olympics as a referee assigner.

This year’s upper school junior varsity and varsity teams boast some fifty students, while our middle school team has forty members. In addition, several middle school students have risen to the challenge and are competing successfully as members of the upper school junior varsity team.

The season is just underway and teams have a busy schedule ahead: twenty matches and three tournaments for upper school fencers and six matches for the middle school team. On January 12, The Masters School hosted a triangular meet with St. Ann’s and Horace Mann—with excellent results! Our girls foil team finished victorious with a 9-7 win over Horace Mann and an 11-5 win over St. Ann’s. Our épée boys team beat St. Ann’s 13-3 and Horace Mann 12-4. Way to go, Panthers!
