Programs Highlight Parents Weekend 2006

The Masters School put up the welcome banner and treated parents to a special program of events on campus during Parents Weekend 2006. On Friday, after registering in the theater, parents were welcomed at the Parent Association hospitality tents located in the courtyard behind Masters Hall. In the early evening everyone gathered to network with faculty and parents at grade level receptions at Estherwood Mansion, which was followed by dinner and an outstanding student performance of Metamorphoses.

Saturday opened with 11th and 12th grade class meetings, followed by a special session on “Debunking College Admissions Myths” presented by Christine Scott, director of college counseling, and Arthur McCann, associate director of college counseling.

The school community assembled at 11:00 a.m. for Convocation, to celebrate the academic life at The Masters School. Guest speaker Oscar L. Tang, father of Tracy Tang Limpe '80, offered
a moving speech about the experience of Chinese immigrants in America. Convocation also celebrated the conferral of the Joan Smith Hamill ’34 CITYterm Chair on David Dunbar, founder and academic dean of CITYterm and The Masters School coordinator of teaching and learning.

During the afternoon, 9th and 10th grade parents met with class deans and advisors for an update on issues of importance to their students. Head of School Maureen Fonseca welcomed new parents at a special reception at Park Cottage. That evening, both boarding and day parents were welcomed at a series of grade level suppers hosted by local families in their homes.

On Sunday, the Parent Association sponsored a private tour of Kykuit, a preeminent Hudson Valley landmark and four-generation home of the Rockefeller family. Students also offered one last performance of Metamorphoses to wrap up the weekend.
