Scholars, athletes, social activists, musicians, and artists who hail from eighteen countries and sixteen states came together in September as one community to form The Masters School’s diverse student body. The 406 students in the Upper School and 156 students in the Middle School arrived ready, willing, and able to be engaged by our faculty of distinction.
The 2007-08 academic school year got underway with a return to classes as well as special activities that brought together our enthusiastic community of students, faculty, and parents. During orientation weekend, new upper school boarders participated in a challenging scavenger hunt in Manhattan and were joined by other upper school students at a Hawaiian luau dance in the dining hall.
At the All-School Meeting held on September 10 on Graduation Terrace, middle and upper school students heard words of encouragement from Head of School Maureen Fonseca, and student leaders thanked faculty, staff, and administration for all they do on behalf of the school
community.
At middle school game night families casually met and mingled by playing board games, and during middle and upper school curriculum nights parents talked with our outstanding faculty and learned about the courses their children are studying.

Upper school students signed up for club activities during the lively annual club fair—while being entertained by a jazz trio. The annual tug-of-war competition between Deltas and Phis was once again the highlight of Founder’s Day activities on September 21 as middle and upper school students and faculty vied for bragging rights.

And the hectic month of September
concluded on the 28th with class trips: freshman went
whitewater rafting in Port Jervis, NY; sophomores went
to Ring Homestead Camp in Middletown, NY, for a high/low
rope course; and juniors went to Ring Homestead Camp
for a leadership program. For seniors and their parents
it was an opportunity to visit prospective colleges
during College Visit Day.
