With the largest enrollment in the School’s history, our 130th year is off to a great start! School opened on Sept 7 with a total of 554 students—146 in the Middle School and 408 in the Upper School—and almost equal proportions of boys and girls. The diversity of our student body is unparallel in the region: Students come from 14 states and 13 countries, and, for the first time, we welcome new students from Uganda, Croatia, Serbia, and Sweden, adding to our truly international community.
This year we are meeting our goal to offer students the opportunity to study non-Western language. Mandarin Chinese is being offered to sixth graders as part of a new language exploratory, and eighth graders and upper school students can elect Mandarin I as their major language.
The dormitories are full with 183 students, including the 30 CITYterm students who study and reside on campus each term. And a wide range of weekend programs is offering both boarding and day students a full life on and off campus. In addition, upper school students can select from forty co-curricular choices this year, from yoga to community service to yearbook, including 19 varsity and junior varsity sports. New options include a cabaret troupe, music studio composition and recording, and creative writing.
“This
is an exciting time to study, live, and work at The
Masters School, and this year we mark the 10th anniversaries
of co-education, Harkness teaching and learning, and
CITYterm,” notes Head of School.
Maureen Fonseca. “Our faculty and students are really looking forward to working together in the pursuit of academic excellence and the joy of personal discovery.”
